For Your Own Good

For Your Own Good
By Samantha Downing

"Teddy Crutcher has won Teacher of the Year at the esteemed Belmont Academy, home to the best and brightest.
He says his wife couldn't be more proud—though no one has seen her in a while.
Teddy really can’t be bothered with the death of a school parent that’s looking more and more like murder or the student digging a little too deep into Teddy’s personal life. His main focus is on pushing these kids to their full academic potential.
All he wants is for his colleagues—and the endlessly meddlesome parents—to stay out of his way.
It's really too bad that sometimes excellence can come at such a high cost."

Before I was even half way through For Your Own Good, I was inspired to make a layered drink.  Each chapter is short and yet we get to see so many points of view that it seemed only fitting to make something that represents more than one character.  I knew whatever I made would have to include some form of milk since the main character, Teddy Crutcher, always rewards himself for a job well done with an ice-cold glass of milk.

"Teddy thinks about having a big glass of milk, even though he had one last night.  Normally, he doesn't drink milk two days in a row, but if he can't celebrate the successes in life, then what's the point?"

Pouring some milk in a glass and calling it a day would have been simple, but not as much fun so the second element is Ingrid Ross' favorite drink, green tea.

"The water bottle.  She always had it with her, and inevitably it was filled with green tea.  She loved that stuff, had even told him about her love for it when they were drinking alcohol."

Now that the main ingredients were decided, I needed to figure out how to make them work together.  A bit of research led me to this Iced Matcha Latte from Oh How Civilized.  I substituted vanilla oat milk for the milk and used a mason jar instead of the cocktail shaker.  It was surprisingly easy to make and so pretty!  Just remember to mix it together before enjoying it since all of the sweetness is in the milk layer.

For Your Own Good: ★★★★✩

I didn't include my thoughts about the book here because I didn't want to spoil anything for you, but if you're interested in hearing more, I posted a short review on Goodreads.

I hope you enjoy For Your Own Good and I hope this drink helps bring the story to life.

Happy reading!
