E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Inspired Menu

In this touching 1982 family film an alien, E.T., is accidentally stranded on Earth.  A young boy named Elliott discovers the gentle alien and does his best to introduce him to life on Earth.  We witness the development of their special bond with a few laughs and maybe even some tears along the way.

Our first item on the menu is tragically dropped and then stepped on when Elliot first encounters E.T.  Can you blame him?  I'd be terrified too if I tossed a ball into a garden shed and something tossed it back to me!

If you want to be fully authentic to the movie, then you can order pizza with "plenty of sausage and pepperoni.  Everything but the little fishies," but since no one actually got to eat that pizza I think it's safe to say we can have whatever kind of pizza we want!  In my case, I made little personal pizzas using this dough from Sally's Baking Addiction as the base.

Accompanying our pizza is some of E.T.'s favorite food:

Fruit!  Any kinds, all kinds, which is perfect because it balances out our meal transforming it from a snack into dinner!

If you've already seen the movie then you likely know what's coming.  Our next item is unquestionably the most iconic food in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Elliot uses these tasty morsels to lure E.T. into his house.  They are delicious and I love that the colors mimic Fall colors.

Fun Fact:
Did you know that the makers of M&Ms passed up the opportunity to be featured in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial paving the way for a lesser known competitor, Reese's Pieces, to thrive?

Of course, you can just eat Reese's Pieces by the handful and not set foot in the kitchen, but just in case you have a bit of time I'm tossing in a bonus recipe.

I used this Reese's Pieces Peanut Butter Cookies recipe from Hersheyland.  They are quick and easy to make just don't forget about them baking like I did.  Don't worry, they still tasted great just a bit on the crispy side!

To complete our menu for E.T., we have an assortment of drinks that were strategically scattered throughout the film to catch our eye.  Don't let Coca-Cola's product placement strategy go to waste and grab yourself a Coke or even a Fresca!

If you're looking for something a little stiffer, who could forget the Coors scene?!  Bottoms up!

I'm all for being creative in the kitchen, but sometimes the best menus are the most simple.  This menu was so easy and fun to put together and you have the option to make it even easier by ordering pizza and picking up Reese's Pieces, fruit, and drinks at your local grocery store.

What better way to bring the family together in the evening than with a heartwarming flick and some simple, delicious food?

See you next time!
