I feel a little silly giving a synopsis for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone because so many people already know and love it, but here we go! This movie is the first in a series adapted from J.K. Rowling's book series by the same name. The Sorcerer's Stone is the most family friendly and follows orphaned 11 year old Harry as he discovers he's a wizard and goes away to a magical boarding school called Hogwarts.
This series holds so much nostalgia for me that I have been known to have one of these movies or even just the music on in the background during the fall, and winter, and any time I just need a feel-good pick-me-up! Adding themed food to this already delightful film is like adding icing to a cake and I know others must feel the same way because there are so many Harry Potter themed food and drink ideas and entire cookbooks dedicated to the subject.
I'm going to stick mostly with classics seen directly in the movie, but I'm going to add a little pizzazz to a couple of the items just to keep things lively. Let's get started!
I think the most popular Harry Potter beverage is Butterbeer, but it's not actually mentioned (or consumed) until later on in the series so I'm going with Pumpkin Juice!
I used this Pumpkin Juice recipe from Favorite Family Recipes. It comes together quickly and it's so good! I added a little cinnamon and sugar to the rim of the glass for just a bit more fun. I haven't tried heating it up yet, but I think it would also taste great warm (preferably served in a festive mug)!
Our next two items are where I used some creative freedom, but I was inspired by Harry's first feast at Hogwarts.

As you can see we have a giant plate of chicken drummies and a bowl of halved corn on the cob. These items don't scream Harry Potter comfort food to me so I decided to add a twist.
Behold, these Buffalo Pumpkin Spice Wings from Frank's RedHot! I was a bit skeptical about the combination of pumpkin spice and chicken, but it was delicious! They are the perfect combination of sweet and spicy and I will most certainly be making them again. If you're only going to try making one thing on this menu it should be these... though the Pumpkin Juice is pretty darn good too.
Continuing our items from the first feast is the corn!
Instead of going with traditional corn on the cob, I decided to try these Spiced Corn Ribs from Alpha Foodie. They were good, but wow, those corn cobs were so hard to cut! They were fun enough to eat that I think I'll make them again sometime, but if you are pressed for time just go with the corn cob halves.
The next items are all desserts and perfect for cuddling up to watch the movie.
First up, we have the birthday cake that Hagrid gave to Harry on his 11th birthday. It traveled a long way and may have been sat on, but it's the first time Harry has received recognition on his birthday and it was made with love.
The book states that it was "a large, sticky chocolate cake with Happy Birthday Harry written on it in green icing," but the movie threw in the pink icing so I combined the two ideas. I used this Chocolate Cake for Two recipe from Dessert For Two. The cake was perfect, but I skipped the chocolate icing in favor of a pink glaze and I didn't love it. Next time I'll use a pink buttercream or stick with a chocolate frosting and then maybe add pink sprinkles. Live and learn, I guess. I can always tell people it looks sloppy because Hagrid sat on it!
If you're tired of the kitchen, never fear! These last items only require a trip to the store and were both inspired by Harry's first train ride to Hogwarts. He meets his soon to be best friend, Ron, and they bond over snacks off the trolley.
The famous (or more likely infamous) Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans are a fun but not always tasty treat. We had a blast encouraging each other to try different flavors. They are kind enough to identify the varieties on the back of the bag and I was willing to try dirt, grass, and soap. I thought maybe they were just labeled that way and it would actually taste like a fruit flavor, but NO! They truly tasted like dirt, grass, and soap!! They also have earwax, rotten egg, and vomit flavors if you're feeling especially brave. They were a hard pass for me!
Our last treat is a Chocolate Frog, which doesn't jump but it does comes with a collectible wizard card. I just love the added touch of authenticity and am currently using my card as a bookmark!
I was able to find the Every Flavour Beans and Chocolate Frogs at Party City, but they are available at a few stores and online as well.
That concludes our menu for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
I'll see you next time!
